Deep Sea Fishing

Fishing for Amberjack in Orange Beach

Orange Beach Alabama amberjack fishing is popular with many anglers. Everyone loves the feel and the thrill of a big amberjack pulling drag and bending the rod. These big fish commonly weigh 20 to 40 pounds with some weighing near 70-100 pounds. The federal fishing regulations are minimum length of 34 inches. We usually travel well offshore  to find larger amberjack. I recommend a 12 hour amberjack fishing charter to chase the big ones. We will also fish for many other species on these longer fishing trips. Orange Beach Amberjack season in 2018 is open in the month of May and will re open again from August 1st through October 31st.

May is a great months to book a 10 or 12 hour deepwater fishing charter. Catch amberjack, scamp, red grouper, vermillion snapper, white snapper and triggerfish.

According to Wikipedia, greater amberjacks, Seriola dumerili, are the largest of the jacks. They usually have dark stripes extending from the nose to in front of their dorsal fins. They have no scutes and soft dorsal bases less than twice the length of the anal fin bases. They are usually 18 kg (40 pounds) or less and are found associated with rocky reefs, debris, and wrecks, typically in 20 to 75 m (10 to 40 fathoms). Greater amberjacks are also found in the Pacific.

Overnight Fishing Trips for Tuna

April though September typically good months for tuna fishing trips. You want good weather and sea conditions when you travel offshore overnight. You may select an 18 or 36 hour trip for tuna.

We can do a 24 hour trip but the 18 and 36 hour are a better value as far as quality fishing time. On the 18 hour trip we depart about 9:30pm and travel to the offshore oil rigs and jig for blackfin tuna. We then slow troll around and near the rigs for yellowfin tuna. There is always a chance to hook into a marlin, wahoo or dolphin as we troll near the offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico after daylight.

On the 36 hour trip we depart about 6am and can bottomfish on the way offshore or we can travel directly offshore and troll around and near the oil rigs. We can jig into the night and then drift for a swordfish. We will jig again before daylight and then start trolling for yellowfin tuna. We can troll for tuna, marlin, dolphin and wahoo or bottomfish or deepdrop and then travel to the dock.

Deep Drop Fishing in Orange Beach

Deep drop fishing is a specialized type of fishing and requires specialized equipment. This is a full day fishing charter that provides many anglers with fishing they may have not experienced before. We deep drop fish on our 12 and 14-hour fishing charters. We fish depths 300 feet to well over 1,000 feet of water. Unlike some of the other boats, we use lightweight high tech reels that are quiet and may be held in your hands while you fish. You will feel the bite and you will hook the fish and reel it into the boat. We suggest you manually reel the fish until it is well off the bottom. You may then use the 12-volt power option to finish reeling the fish to the boat. You will also enjoy our lightweight, yet strong fishing rods to handle big grouper, tilefish and more. Some of the fish you may catch are snowy grouper, yellowedge grouper, warsaw grouper, golden tilefish, blueline tilefish, longtail seabass, rosefish, cusk, scorpion fish and more. You will find these deepwater fish to be some of the best tasting fish you have eaten. Many of these fish come from deep water with bottom water temps near 40 degrees. Some people compare the taste of some of the fish such as golden tilefish to lobster. Come join us for some deep drop fishing in Orange Beach Alabama along the Gulf Coast. You can decide.
